The Winston-Salem State University “RED SEA OF SOUND” Marching Band is comprised of 145 students majoring in Music Education, Music Business and other disciplines throughout the University. The band’s versatility, showmanship and entertainment value is demonstrated each year during the fall semester at football games, parades and special events. The exhilarating features of the marching band include; dancers, flags, and four or five exciting, thrilling, high energy Drum Majors.

 

The Red Sea of Sound Marching Band has received numerous awards and countless recognition for outstanding performances. Several of the most noted performances include: the Circle City Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Cleveland Classic and the New York City Urban League Classic. The Red Sea of Sound Marching Band has performed with notable artist such as Donald Lawrence, Gerald Albright and Ernest Pugh.  The ensemble also provided live recordings for the 2009 released video game Black College Football: BCFX: The Xperience.  In addition, the Red Sea of Sound was invited to Atlanta, GA to perform at the prestigious Honda Battle of the Bands in January of 2008, January 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and January 2017.  Most recently, the Red Sea of Sound was featured in a promotional video aired on ESPN’s First Take, hosted by Winston Salem State University alumnus Stephen A. Smith as well as achieving a ranking of #1 among Division II college bands by ESPN’s Undefeated in 2018 and 2019. 

 

Our members have taken their drive and dedication and transferred them into professional arenas in the fields of music, art, education, science, technology, medicine and the military.  From the first days of camp to the final days of graduation, Red Sea of Sound members receive instruction from top-tier professors and leave the university with an education provided by one of the finest institutions in the country.

All members of The Red Sea of Sound Marching Band have pledged to serve as ambassadors of goodwill for Winston-Salem State University presenting themselves as a showcase of musical excellence, elegance, sophistication, esprit de corp, and dignity.
